The Druk Path Trek is one of Bhutan’s most popular treks, offering a perfect balance of beautiful landscapes, cultural insights, and moderate physical challenge. The trek connects Paro and Thimphu, taking you through stunning mountain passes, dense forests, serene alpine lakes, and traditional dzongs (fortresses). Along the way, trekkers can experience Bhutan’s unique blend of natural beauty and cultural richness.

Here’s a 6-day itinerary for the Druk Path Trek:

Morning:

  • Arrive at Paro International Airport: Your guide and driver from Jambayang Travel Service will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in Paro.
  • Check-in: Take some time to relax and acclimatize to the altitude (2,280 meters / 7,500 feet).

Afternoon:

  • Visit Paro Dzong (Rinpung Dzong): This majestic fortress-monastery is one of Bhutan’s oldest and most revered dzongs, located along the banks of the Paro Chhu River.
  • National Museum of Bhutan: Located in the Ta Dzong (watchtower), this museum offers an overview of Bhutanese history, culture, and natural heritage. It’s a great introduction to Bhutan’s traditions.

Evening:

  • Leisure time: Explore Paro’s charming streets or relax at your hotel.

Overnight:

  • Stay at a 3 star rated (or above) hotel in Paro.

Morning:

  • Start Trek from Paro: After breakfast, you will begin the trek from Paro (2,280 meters) to Jele Dzong (3,450 meters). The first day’s trek is a steady ascent, covering about 7 km (4-5 hours).
  • Trek Overview: The trail takes you through a beautiful pine forest, with stunning views of the Paro Valley as you gain elevation. You’ll also pass several small Bhutanese villages and monasteries on the way.

Afternoon:

  • Arrival at Jele Dzong: Jele Dzong sits high above the Paro Valley and offers incredible views of Mount Chomolhari, Bhutan’s second-highest peak (7,314 meters). The dzong itself is small and peaceful, with only a few monks residing there.

Evening:

  • Relax at Jele dzong, enjoy the surroundings, and get ready for an early night.

Overnight:

Camp near Jele Dzong (Altitude: 3,450 meters).

Morning:

  • Trek from Jele Dzong to Jangchulakha: The second day of the trek involves a slightly longer but manageable trek (10 km, 4-5 hours). The trail ascends through dense forests of rhododendron, juniper, and pine trees.
  • Scenic Views: As you gain altitude, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the Himalayan range, especially on clear days. You’ll have the chance to see Mount Jomolhari and Mount Jichu Drake in the distance.

Afternoon:

  • Arrival at Jangchulakha: This is a beautiful campsite located at an altitude of 3,750 meters. It’s known for its stunning alpine meadows, grazing yaks, and panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. You may also spot blue sheep in the area.

Evening:

  • Relax at camp: Enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Jangchulakha, where you can watch the sunset over the mountains and enjoy a warm campfire dinner.

Overnight:

  • Camp at Jangchulakha (Altitude: 3,750 meters).

Morning:

  • Trek from Jangchulakha to Jimilangtso Lake: On Day 4, you’ll continue your trek for about 11 km (5-6 hours), passing through high-altitude meadows and dense forests. The trail ascends steadily, offering views of distant snow-capped peaks.
  • Spot Yaks and Wildlife: As you climb, you’ll pass yak herders and may see large herds of yaks grazing in the meadows.

Afternoon:

  • Arrival at Jimilangtso Lake: Located at an altitude of 3,870 meters, Jimilangtso is a serene alpine lake surrounded by beautiful landscapes. The lake is famous for its crystal-clear waters and is a great spot for nature lovers. You can relax by the lake or take a short walk around its perimeter.

Evening:

  • Overnight at Jimilangtso: Spend the night camping by the lake, surrounded by tranquil nature and stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

Overnight:

  • Camp at Jimilangtso (Altitude: 3,870 meters).

Morning:

  • Trek from Jimilangtso to Phajoding: On the fifth day, the trek is around 10-12 km (5-6 hours). This is one of the most scenic stretches of the Druk Path Trek, with beautiful alpine forests, mountain views, and tranquil lakes.
  • Phajoding Monastery: As you approach Phajoding, you’ll reach a small but important monastery located at an altitude of 3,600 meters. The monastery is home to a few monks, and the area is known for its spiritual significance.

Afternoon:

  • Arrival at Phajoding: The final stop before Thimphu offers stunning views of the Thimphu Valley and the surrounding mountains.

Evening:

Take some time to relax and enjoy the surroundings before your descent to Thimphu.

Overnight:

Camp at Phajoding (Altitude: 3,600 meters).

Morning:

  • Trek from Phajoding to Thimphu: The final day of the trek involves a 5-6 hour descent (around 12 km) into the valley. The trail passes through forests and offers magnificent views of the Thimphu Valley.
  • Arrival in Thimphu: Once you reach Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan, you can check in to your hotel and relax after completing the trek.

Afternoon:

  • Explore Thimphu: After your trek, take some time to explore Bhutan’s capital. You can visit places like Tashichho Dzong, Buddha Dordenma, or Changangkha Lhakhang to get a taste of Bhutanese culture.

Evening:

  • Optional cultural experience: If time allows, enjoy a traditional dinner at a local restaurant along with a cultural performance, showcasing traditional Bhutanese music and dance.

Overnight:

  • Stay at a hotel in Thimphu.

Morning:

  • Depending on your flight time, you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast and explore more of Thimphu.

Afternoon:

  • Transfer to Paro (1.5 hours drive) for your departure flight or continue with further sightseeing.
